We thought it would be cool to share some of the cleaning tips, tricks, and hacks that we have picked up over the years to make your life a little easier! Tired of throwing out your sponges before they have served you faithfully? As gross as they can seem after using them, collecting bacteria and germs, you can actually sanitize them by getting them wet, ringing them out, and placing them in the microwave for a couple of minutes!

 

get-clean-cupboardsDON'T IGNORE CUPBOARD DOORS

One of the most commonly neglected areas when cleaning are kitchen cupboard doors. They get touched numerous times a day. Dirt, food, and grease begin to grow and before you know it, you're wondering how they got so disgusting! Mix up a solution of 1 part vegetable oil and 2 parts baking soda, then clean with a rag or a sponge and witness a miracle! For corners around molding, handles, or other tough-to-clean areas, use a toothbrush.

Does it seem like you can never get your cookie sheets and baking tins completely clean after using them the very first time? They begin to rust, discolor, and worst of all, get that sticky stuff on them. Don't throw them out just yet! Mix up a paste using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Apply a thick coat to the areas to be cleaned. Now, walk away! Come back in a couple hours and wipe away the solution. You should be happy with what you see. If it sounds too good to be true, try it on a small area of a baking sheet you were already planning to throw away.

Do you dread cleaning ceiling fans because no matter how hard you try, dust falls to the ground - or worse yet onto your bed? Place an old pillow case over the fan blade just like the blade was a pillow. Then use the inside of the pillow case to pull the dust off the blade. Take the case outside, turn it inside out, give it a shake, and put it in the wash. You should keep your old pillow cases for this ingenious cleaning tip alone!

 

oxiclean-to-remove-stickersDON'T FIGHT THE STICKERS

Love buying new dishes, but hate trying to get off the impossibly sticky manufacturer's labels and retailers price tags? This is particularly frustrating when you are in a crunch for time, like when you buy new dishes, glasses, or service pieces the day before a holiday or a party! Don't sweat the stickers ever again. Place your new, sticker-covered dishes and stemware in a sink of hot water, toss in a scoop of OxiClean, and check back in 30 or 40 minutes. You should find the stickers floating in the water.

Is the cleaning surface of your iron looking pretty bad? Just place an old pillow case or t-shirt on your ironing board, cover the fabric with a generous amount of salt, then heat up the iron on the hottest setting. Be sure the steam function is OFF. Now, iron! Dirt will stick to the salt and bring your iron's cleaning surface back to life.

GOODBYE REFRIGERATOR ODOR

If you like coffee, you'll like this little tip. Simply place new or brewed coffee grounds in an open container somewhere in your refrigerator and let them take care of the odor for you! Replace them every few weeks for maximum freshness! Many coffee shops offer their used grounds for recycling, check with them if you don't drink coffee!

KEEP YOUR DISHWASHER CLEAN

Is the inside of your dishwasher dirtier than the dishes you are putting in it? Place 1/2 cup of White Vinegar in the soap dispenser and run a full cycle with your dishwasher empty!

KEEP YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL HAPPY

Just because it it's garbage doesn't mean it has to stink! Feed your garbage disposal a cocktail of ice cubes and orange or lemon peels once in awhile. The sound of chewing will be loud, but your disposals breath will be much better afterwards!

GOODBYE BAKED ON FOOD

Feeling a little lazy? Out of scouring pads? Just out your pots or pans with baked a sink full of hot water, toss in a couple dryer sheets, and come back in the morning. The same stuff that removes static breaks down the bond between food and what it's caked on. Just wipe clean in the morning!

EZ CLEAN UP OF BROKEN GLASS

Don't you hate finding little fragments of broken glass on the floor months after you actually broke a glass? Even worse is finding them with your bare feet! Next time you break a glass, after you sweep up, use Play-Doh to finish the job! Take a glob of Play-Doe and press it around the floor in the areas where you broke the glass. You will lot only pick up big pieces, but also the small shrapnel that you couldn't see! Wrap it up and throw it out when you are done.

CITRUS VS THE MICROWAVE

Wanna freshen up your microwave and loosen up those grease splatters? Take a small bowl of water, cut a lemon or two in half, and squeeze the juice into the water. Then, drop in the lemon halves. Run the microwave for 5 or 6 minutes. Open and easily wipe away grease and food splatters. Enjoy the smell while you're at it!

COPPER REBORN

Fill a 16 oz spray bottle with white vinegar. Toss in 3 tablespoons of salt. Spray the solution directly onto your copper and let it sit for 20 seconds or so, then simply rub your copper clean!

NO MORE TOILET BOWL RING

Let the power of phosphoric acid makes your toilet bowl rings disappear! Just drop a few antacid tablets in the toilet and let them sit for a 20-25 minutes. Brush the bowl and flush away the ugly ring of rust and grime!

A GROOVY KINDA CLEAN

It's so hard to clean out the grooves of statues, trunks, collectibles, and other knick-knacks...until now! A nice soft paint brush just made dusting easier! Just find a brush with bristles long enough to do the job, and clean the cracks and grooves!

BLINDS MADE EASY

Mix up a bowl containing equal parts of warm water and white vinegar. Put on a clean pair of white cotton gloves. Dip your fingers in the solution, then pinch your fingers around each slat of the blinds and pull them along to dust. Periodically rinse the dirt from your gloves in the sink.

COB WEBS - MEET BROOM HANDLE

Sometimes those cob webs are just too high to reach. This is a great tip of you can't climb into a ladder. Take the handle of a broom, a hockey stick, or any other long and solid item you can use as an extension of your arm. Wrap a dish cloth or rag around the mantle and secure it with a runner band. Just reach up and snag those cob webs!

TENNIS BALL 40 - SCUFF MARKS LOVE

One of the oldest tricks in the book! Rub scuff marks out of of wood and tile floors with a tennis ball. If you have trouble bending and kneeling, simply cut a slit in the tennis ball (carefully!) and out the ball on the end of a cane or broom handle...rub away!
